Emergency Lighting Tests

Emergency Lighting Tests

Emergency lighting protects you and your business…

…is yours working?

Each year as many as
55 people die in commercial building fires*

The law insists that you protect your staff and customers.

There are certain British Standard tests:

DAILY

Check indicator light and that all maintained luminaries are operating.

MONTHLY

Operational test for a short period (a maximum of one quarter or the rated duration).
45 minute test for self contained 3hr system.

SIX MONTHLY

Test for at least one hour for 3-hour rated systems.

ANNUALLY

Test for full duration. (3 Hours)

Is your emergency lighting fully charged? In a fault will it run for the required time?

PROCEDURE

During each test, the lights must be checked for correct operation. After testing, the supply should be restored and then checked to ensure the system is charging correctly.

A detailed test schedule and test reports are listed in BS5266. Test records and log books are required. For maintained luminaries it is recommend that that lamps are routinely replaced after 5000 hours running (approx 7 months ), or according to the manufacturer's guidelines.
